Driver identified after vehicle hit pole, caught fire early Sunday morning on Wooldridge

The Nueces County ME said they used dental records to identify 21-year-old Joseph P. Chapa as the driver. CCPD said that the crash remains under investigation.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office has identified 21-year-old Joseph P. Chapa as the driver killed in last Sunday's fatal single-vehicle accident on Wooldridge near Rodd Field Road.

The ME said the identification took a few more days than normal because they had to do dental comparisons.

CCPD said that crews responded to a major accident after 2 a.m. and discovered that a white car hit an electrical pole and caught fire.

The front seat passenger, a 21-year-old man was able to get out of the car with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was unable to exit the car and died at the scene.

So far, investigators have determined that the car was traveling at a high speed but it is still unclear what caused the driver to lose control.

The crash remains under investigation.
