Thursday afternoon San Patricio Public Health Preparedness Manager, Clara Rieder reported three new cases.
Officials say one case is community spread and the other two are under investigation. One case reported Monday was not in San Patricio county after all. The county now has a total of 25 cases. There are 11 active cases. Officials report that one individual has recovered.
Thursday afternoon Nueces County officials reported 23 new cases bringing the total number to 209. 126 are active, while 80 have recovered. Four of the cases are from three local nursing homes. Officials have not released the names of the nursing homes.

As of Tuesday, Corpus Christi and Nueces County officials report our biggest spike in coronavirus cases with 27. The county now has a total of 174 with 91 active cases. Most of the new cases are from the STX Beef processing plant.
Today the City and National Guard conducted 36 tests and we received confirmation of 144 tests requested by hospitals and private physicians. Our total of all tests performed is 4,934.
Of the total 174 positive COVID-19 cases, 80 persons or 47% have recovered to date.
There currently are eight patients in the hospital, and four of those persons are in intensive care.

As of Sunday, 4:20 p.m, Corpus Christi and Nueces County officials have reported a total of 132 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County. Health officials announced three new cases of COVID-19 today.
46 cases have been determined to be travel-related, 43 were determined to be person-to-person, 30 community transmission, and 33 are still under investigation.

The director of the Nueces County-Corpus Christi Public Health District confirmed to 3News Thursday that three people have tested positive for COVID-19 at a local halfway house. Health District officials are now investigating.
San Patricio County reported two new cases bringing the total to 16. Five cases are active.

As of Wednesday, there are four new coronavirus cases in the Coastal Bend. Nueces County reported three of those cases while San Patricio reported one. There are now 117 cases in Nueces County and 14 in San Patricio County.
At the coronavirus briefing at Corpus Christi City Hall, officials announced that a handful of employees at STX Beef (previously Sam Kane's) processing facility have tested positive for the virus.
Rodriguez says they have activated a rapid response team to quickly isolate those who are affected and track down people the patients have come in contact with. Rodriguez says that some asymptomatic employees could still work as long as they are wearing personal protective equipment.
"Normally when you have a positive, all of those people that come in contact with them, we take them out of the mix for 14 days to self-isolate or quarantine that's not the case when you have an essential infrastructure like this," Rodriguez said.
"They can actually work as long as they are asymptomatic and as long as they are wearing their protective gear so they have masks and goggles and face shields as well."
Rodriguez says the employees who are sick will not be allowed to return to work unless they have been in quarantine for at least 10 days. They must also not have had a fever for three consecutive days without the use of any type of fever-reducing medication.

As of Sunday, May 3, the total positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County remains at 107. According to health officials, there are no new cases reported.
44 of those cases are travel-related, 32 cases of the disease have been passed by person-to-person contact, and 23 cases were transmitted throughout the community, and 8 cases are currently under investigation.

Duval County confirms a positive case of the coronavirus. The man is a city employee in Freer, TX, he is between the age of 30-40.
On Tuesday, the county conducted 78 tests. As of now, this is the only positive case in the county.

Three Corpus Christi firefighters have been released from quarantine after treating and transporting an infant to the hospital who later showed symptoms of COVID-19. The infant tested negative.
Kleberg County confirms nine total cases of COVID-19. The patient is a man in his 30s, the county says. Of the nine cases, one of those cases has become deadly and five cases have now been released from isolation.
Refugio County's Office of Emergency Management put out a notice Thursday of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in their county. According to officials, the patient has been identified as a male in his 50s. He is currently being isolated.
Officials said the case has been determined to be community-acquired.
The Texas Department of State Health Services is working with County authorities to help identify any close contacts of the patient.

City-county officials updated the public today about how the county is handling the coronavirus response. Here are the highlights from the press conference.
- Three Corpus Christi firefighters have been placed in quarantine after treating and transporting an infant to the hospital who later showed symptoms of COVID-19.
- 56 CPAP and BiPAP machines were donated to Del Mar College. These machines can be used as ventilators if necessary. Tomorrow and Friday from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Del Mar College will be accepting more donations on the West Campus.
- Small business owners are still eligible for a no-interest loan through the city to help them through these tough times.

Officials reported the second COVID-related fatality in Nueces County on Saturday, and just yesterday, health officials confirmed a third death of a Nueces County resident.

The City of Corpus Christi has released the latest information on COVID-19 and an activity update as of Saturday, April 25, 2020, as of 4:39 p.m.
According to Corpus Christi and Nueces County officials, there is a total of 94 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County.
City officials say there are currently three patients in the hospital, one in critical condition, and 33 recovered.
One patient that was in critical condition in a Nevada hospital died on Sunday night. The male patient was a Nueces County resident between the ages of 30-39.
“He had been working in Nevada as a traveling nurse. He tested positive for COVID-19 early April," stated health officials.
The male patient became ill after testing positive, and he was then hospitalized in Nevada.
Unfortunately, he passed away on April 19, 2020, in a Nevada hospital, from complications, according to health officials.

Duval County has extended the County's stay at home order to June 1.
The County's face covering order has been extended to June 1 as well.
Duval County officials are urging residents to stay home if they can, but if they do go out residents must wear a face mask.

San Patricio County reported no new cases today. Making it the second day in a row that the County has no new cases.
A Jim Hogg County Sheriff's deputy has tested positive for COVID-19.
Officials from the County emergency management say the deputy is from Laredo, TX, and works in Jim Hogg County.
After Nueces County reported no new cases four days in a row, Thursday one new case was reported by County officials.
This brings the total to 91 cases in Nueces County.
Today 83 residents were tested for COVID-19 at the Nueces County drive-thru testing site. All tests came back negative.

The County also reported there is one less case making the total of cases 11 after one case turned out to be an out of County case.

One new case in Kleberg County, Nueces County sees the third day in a row of zero cases
The woman who tested positive is from Kingsville. She is currently being quarantined.
Officials say the woman recently traveled to Wisconsin. The woman's case is related to the positive case from Sunday. There are seven confirmed cases in Kleberg County.
As of Tuesday 4:30 pm there are zero new cases and two recoveries in Nueces County.

NUECES COUNTY CONFIRMS FIRST COVID-19 DEATH
COVID-19 claimed its first life in Nueces County on Saturday, according to the Nueces County Health Department.
Officials say the victim was a woman between the ages of 70 and 79 years old. Further details on the woman, including her name and area of residence, can not be released due to HIPPA regulations.
Here's what we do know:
- The woman tested positive for the virus in early March.
- She was considered to have been recovered from the virus at the end of March after a second test showed a negative result.
- She was readmitted to the hospital after testing negative due to complaints of abdominal pain and other underlying conditions, according to public health officials.
- Officials say although the patient tested negative there is still limited information available on whether or not the she was still suffering from the virus.
Brooks County officials announced their first positive case of COVID-19 on Monday. They said County and City of Falfurrias officials received word about the case from the Department of State Health Services.
As part of Governor Greg Abbott's plans to reopen Texas gradually, state parks were allowed to open to the public on Monday. Many did, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department website. However, Mustang Island announced they were not ready to reopen and they will provide updates when a reopening date is set.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a series of executive orders Friday with several directives meant to gradually reopen the state.
The governor is establishing a strike force that includes medical experts, business leaders, educators, and political leaders. This team will work together to find safe and effective ways to slowly re-introduce Texans to their usual way of life.
One of the biggest announcements regarded school districts and universities.
Abbott said public and private schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. He added educators and administrators will be allowed to perform administrative tasks, however.
Starting April 20, Abbott said state parks will be reopened. He added visitors will not be allowed to gather in groups larger than five people, must maintain social distancing and will be required to wear protective masks.
Starting April 22, Abbott said current restrictions on medical procedures will be lifted. Currently, hospitals and other medical specialists are not allowed to perform any essential procedures such as diagnostics tests for cancer.
He said he'll start allowing surgeons to perform elective surgeries at a later date.
Beginning April 24, Abbott said retailers will be allowed to do to-go shopping.
On April 27, Abbott said he will announce additional guidelines for the reopening of Texas.

The Kleberg County Commissioners Court confirmed via Facebook Wednesday afternoon the third positive case of COVID-19 in their county.
That number includes a middle-aged man who died from COVID-19 related complications on Monday.
According to the Commissioners Court, their numbers may vary from the Texas Department of State Health Services because they "will not include permanent residents of Kleberg County who were quarantined, tested and diagnosed with COVID-19 in another county."
The Commissioners Court post also reminds residents that the hours for the Kleberg County & City of Kingsville Joint Remote Testing Site are from 9-11 a.m. Thursdays.

An inmate from Robstown tested positive for COVID-19. City-county health director, Annette Rodriguez says that inmates will need to be isolated from the rest of the population. The detention center houses prisoners for U.S. Marshals and ICE.
Christus Health System will begin using a new antibody test to screen not only some patients but doctors, nurses, and associates for COVID-19. The test can detect if a person has had COVID-19 before or if they have it now, and it produces results in about 10 minutes.

The Corpus Christi Independent School District has released updated tentative rescheduling dates for graduation ceremonies in case they cannot host their usual spring ceremonies as planned.

Today marks our first death in the Coastal Bend from the coronavirus.
Kleberg County announced that a man from Kingsville died from the coronavirus earlier today. The county said he tested positive for the virus 17 days ago on Friday, March 27th and had been quarantining since. The man did seek medical attention at one point and was treated at a hospital in Corpus Christi.
The man's case was travel-related, due to recent travel from Waco. He also had underlying health issues, which are uncertain at this time.
“This is a very dark day for our community and the Coastal Bend, one life lost is one too many,” said Judge Madrid. As of Monday, Kleberg County reportedly had 2 cases of the virus.
San Patricio announces +3 cases of the virus bringing the county's total to 10.
The county also passing a new executive order by Judge Krebs’ to continue the Declaration of Local Disaster Order for 30 days and extend the 'Stay Home Work Safe' measure until May 4, 2020. The county saying under this new order all county-owned parks remain closed and the nightly curfew is unchanged.
Duval County officials notified the City of Freer Monday that they have their first positive case of COVID-19 residing in Freer, Texas. It is male between 65-69 years old who is reportedly under quarantine.

Some good news on this Easter Sunday -- no new cases of the coronavirus as of April 12, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.
City health officials processed 4 new tests, and all of them have come back negative.
According to the update, Corpus Christi Nueces County Public Health District, along with other state of Texas public testing labs, have administered 387 tests. Local hospitals have administered 634 bringing that to a total of 1031 tests, officials reveal.
Although, Bee County officials confirmed one new case of the coronavirus in their area early Sunday morning.
The confirmed case in Bee County is still under investigation, and the County resident is a female, between the ages of 70 and 80, according to officials.
The woman is in fair condition, and she is under quarantine at her residence. This is the third confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in Bee County.

Officials at Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi announced via Facebook that one positive case of COVID-19 is among the base population.
NAS-CC CO Capt. Chris Jason said the patient has remained in isolation and that any close contacts they have had have been notified. In the meantime, all child youth program services have been closed until April 15 so they can be fully cleaned by contracted professionals.

Bee County officials saying the testing facility conducted 24 tests yesterday. Of those 24 tests, 21 came back negative with 3 coming back positive. The county saying there have been 54 tests total county-wide. There will be no testing tomorrow. They will resume testing Monday.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, Corpus Christi and Nueces County officials have reported a total of 72 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County.
34 cases have been determined to be travel-related. 17 were determined to be person-to-person, 14 community transmission, and 7 are still under investigation. There have still been 0 deaths from COVID-19 in Nueces County.
In our hospitals, the City announced there are 6 hospitalized, 3 in critical condition. 1 patient was transported to San Antonio today for better treatment. 3 are recovering.
Nueces County is averaging 3.6 positive cases of the coronavirus per day. Our biggest spike was 10 in one day.
The City of Corpus Christi announcing that Fire Chief Robert Rocha tested negative for COVID-19 after he developed a fever yesterday.
The City said in addition to this, the 10 firefighters who were self-monitoring due to exposure to Chief Rocha have been cleared to return to duty.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, Corpus Christi and Nueces County officials have reported a total of 69 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County.
33 cases have been determined to be travel-related. 16 were determined to be person-to-person, 11 community transmission, and 9 are still under investigation.
There have still been 0 deaths from COVID-19 in Nueces County.
Tuesday, April 7
Bee County confirms the first positive case of COVID-19. The woman is between the ages of 45 - 50. The county saying she is in "fair condition" at this time. The case is under investigation. It is unsure at this time how the virus was transmitted.
Nueces County, City report 65 cases of the coronavirus. 30 cases have been determined to be travel-related. 11 were determined to be person-to-person, 16 community transmission, and 8 are still under investigation.
There have still been 0 deaths from COVID-19 in Nueces County.

Monday, April 6
According to Nueces County, 6 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed.
Aransas County confirms 2nd positive case. The county saying the case was transmitted by community spread. The individual is a male, in his 50's, and is currently quarantining at home.
San Patricio County reports its 7th case of the coronavirus. The county saying both patients are females, between the ages of 50 - 60, and they are in stable condition. At this time, the county is unsure of how the virus was transmitted; both of the cases are under investigation.
Five Brooks County Independent School District employees were placed on quarantine after one of them had third-party contact with a nurse who tested positive for COVID-19. That employee's relative is being tested, and the results are still pending. That employee and four others had minimal contact with have been placed on quarantine as a precaution. None are showing symptoms.

As of Sunday, the total positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County is at 53. 29 of those are travel related. 10 cases of the disease have been passed by person to person contact, 5 cases are currently under investigation, and 9 cases were reportedly spread through community transmission.
According to health officials, there have been 3 new cases confirmed since yesterday.
Saturday, April 4
As of Saturday, April 4, 2020, at 4:00 p.m., there are now 50 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Nueces County.
"Nueces County Public Health District is tracking and updating COVID-19 data daily. Information regarding COVID-19 cases is provided on www.cctexas.com/coronavirus and new case data will be posted at 4:30 p.m. daily," stated city health officials.
According to the update from Nueces County health officials, they have their first case of the coronavirus in the 0 to 19 years age group.
City health officials are recommending the public to wear masks as they go outside, run errands, or go to the grocery store.
National health officials have now confirmed that the coronavirus can be transmitted when airborne.
There are several videos circulating around social media on how to make a simple cloth mask to cover your face and nose as you leave the house for essentials.
As community transmission has now been confirmed in Nueces County, it is important to start taking extra precautions such as wearing cloth face masks and only going out into public if it is absolutely necessary.
Friday, April 3
All three employees at Gregory Portland ISD who were experiencing symptoms related to the virus back in March, have now tested positive for COVID-19. The employees had been working on the campus between March 18th through the 20th.
Gregory-Portland ISD administration stated, "this employee was the last of three who reported symptoms and had been working at G-P Middle School."
The City of Corpus Christi says that the COVID-19 test administered to the Fire Captain earlier today came back negative, which clears five other firefighter-paramedics to return to work.
The City says the firefighters had secondary exposure to COVID-19 via the Fire Captain whose spouse tested positive for COVID-19. The Fire Captain will be quarantined at home.
As of 4 p.m. Friday, Corpus Christi and Nueces County officials have reported a total of 47 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County.
27 cases have been determined to be travel-related. 4 were determined to be person-to-person, 8 community transmission, and 8 are still under investigation. There have still been 0 deaths from COVID-19 in Nueces County.
15 new tests were given Friday in Nueces County. An additional 230 have been given inside of hospitals with 0 test results reported thus far. 183 tests have been administered by private commercial labs and results are pending, resulting in 505 tests total in Nueces County.
San Patricio County reports another positive case of the coronavirus, bringing the county's total case number to four. The county says the patient is a male between the ages of 55-60 and will not require hospitalization. At the moment, it is unsure how the virus was transmitted to this person.
Driscoll Children's Hospital has announced that a physician at their Quick Care-Victoria after-hours clinic has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to officials, the physician was tested for the virus after having contact with a COVID-19 positive patient at another facility. However, the physician is asymptomatic.
Thursday, April 2
City of Corpus Christi announces that the spouse of a CCFD Fire Captain tested positive for COVID-19. The City says that five firefighters had secondary exposure to COVID-19 via the Fire Captain. Friday the Fire Captain will test.
Kleberg County Commissioners Court announced on their Facebook page that a second case of the coronavirus has been added to their count, but they have since retracted that number stating that they only have one case at this time.
As of Thursday, the total positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County is at 41, 1+ since yesterday. 26 of those are travel-related; 3 cases of the disease have been passed by person to person contact; 7 community transmission; and 5 are currently under investigation.
11 new tests were given Thursday in Nueces County. An additional 183 tests have been administered by private commercial labs and results are pending, resulting in 393 tests total in Nueces County. Nueces County has yet to receive any test numbers and results from our area hospitals.
San Patricio County Department of Public Health announced a 3rd positive case of COVID-19. The county says the patient is a female between the ages of 25-30 and is in stable condition.
Wednesday, April 1
The City of George West announced there are now 2 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in their county. The cases are both travel-related and all persons involved with the patients have been notified.
As of Wednesday, the total positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County is at 40. 23 of those are travel related. 3 cases of the disease have been passed by person to person contact. 14 of those cases are currently under investigation.
22 new tests were administered Wednesday in Nueces County coming out to 199 in total.
The Corpus Christi Independent School District announced Wednesday that one of their employees who was tested for COVID-19 on March 17 received a positive result. The health department said they do not believe there was further exposure on district property related to this case.
The City of Orange Grove confirmed that a patient that tested positive for COVID-19 is being transferred from Nueces County to Orange Grove, Texas. They will have to comply with an order to remain in quarantine for 14-days and will be monitored by public health personnel.

As of Tuesday, the total positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County is at 34. 23 of those are travel related. 3 cases of the disease have been passed by person to person contact. 8 cases are currently under investigation.
23 new tests were administered Tuesday in Nueces County coming out to 177 in total.
10 first responders in Corpus Christi were placed under quarantine out of an abundance of caution after responding to a major accident on Gollihar Road near Ayers. One of the drivers involved in the accident is being tested for COVID-19, and four police officers and six firefighters will remain in quarantine until results come back.

Monday, March 30
Medical experts across South Texas want to remind you that as more people get tested, more confirmed cases are bound to be discovered. So far, the total positive cases of COVID-19 in Nueces County is at 31.
23 of those are travel-related; only 1 of those cases were passed by person to person contact and 7 of those cases are currently under investigation.
The people affected mostly appear to be in the 40-to 49 and 60-to 69 age groups.
25 new tests were administered in Nueces County coming out to 154 in total.
2 confirmed cases have been discovered in San Patricio County and 1 case in Kleberg County.
Jim Wells County's first confirmed COVID-19 case has been residing in Nueces County
This would have been the first known case of COVID-19 living in Jim Wells County. Nueces County officials have been notified and are handling the case.

Four CCPD officers quarantined after possible exposure to COVID-19
Nueces County Public Health District confirmed Sunday afternoon that the four police officers ordered to quarantine due to possible COVID-19 exposure have returned to duty.
"The patient they transported yesterday came back negative for COVID-19 and the officers were cleared to go back to work," stated officials.

Four CCPD officers quarantined after possible exposure to COVID-19
Four Corpus Christi Police Officers were involved in a call last night which resulted in an arrest and testing for COVID-19. The suspect was transported to the hospital for medical care. Hospital staff determined the suspect had symptoms consistent with the risk of COVID-19. The officers are in quarantine because of the potential exposure.
Friday, March 27
Second group of CCFD firefighters quarantined after potential exposure to COVID-19 on the job.
Two firefighter-paramedics were potentially exposed to COVID-19 after transporting a patient Friday night. The city is now putting them on quarantine because of the potential exposure. This is the second group of firefighters that have been quarantined within the last month.
Several counties and municipalities have enacted stay-at-home orders in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Nueces, Kleberg and San Patricio counties are among several that have opted to issue stay-at-home orders in light of the coronavirus threat. Some municipalities such as Port Aransas and Alice have put curfews in place to further protect their communities.

Mustang Island Park employee being tested for the virus, park will remain closed to the public
Mustang Island State Park will be closed to the public after an employee was deemed to be 'presumed positive' for the virus, according to officials with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Officials say the employee worked as a collector in the park's office and fee booth and regularly interacted with park visitors. The employee has not been to the park since March 18.
3News wants to emphasize this person is not a confirmed positive case at this time.

TPWD was notified of a presumed positive case of COVID-19 at Mustang Island State Park on March 26. This individual is a park employee who works as a fee collector in the park’s office and fee booth and regularly interacts with park visitors. Their last day in the park was March 18. While we have not received official confirmation of a COVID-19 diagnosis, out of an abundance of caution, Mustang Island State Park will remain closed to the public in order to ensure the safety and well-being of our visitors and staff until further notice.
All camping and day-use reservations scheduled between March 27 and April 6 will be notified about refunds. Check the Texas State Parks Alert Map or the park's website regularly for updates."
CONFIRMED: Kingsville, Kleberg County now has one positive case of COVID-19
One case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Kleberg County.
This is the first case of the virus in the county. Officials say the person is from Kingsville.
Officials have not yet released the person's age, gender, condition or how the person became infected.
To combat the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, Kleberg County announced a stay-at-home order for the county beginning March 27th, 11:59 p.m. until April 8th, 2020.
"If people will follow the rules, regulations, and guidelines set out by the CDC and the Governor's Office, the sooner we will get back to our normal lives," said Mayor Sam Fugate.
Gregory-Portland Middle School closed to all staff after 3 employees display symptoms of coronavirus, district officials say.
An employee with the Gregory-Portland Independent School District is awaiting test results after showing symptoms of COVID-19 according to district officials.
The information was released in a statement from the district. Read it below:
"TO: G-PISD Parents/Guardians & Staff
Gregory-Portland ISD has been notified that three (3) District employees have exhibited some of the symptoms of COVID-19. These three individuals reported having been near one another simultaneously while on campus, and of the three, only one (1) qualified to be tested for COVID-19 (results are currently pending). Out of respect for the privacy of the employee(s), the District is not able to provide additional information. However, please be assured that the District is cooperating with the San Patricio County Health Department and is assisting in identifying any other individuals who may have come into contact with this/these individual(s) in recent days.
The District believes that these employees were at G-P Middle School between March 18-20, 2020. We encourage any individuals who were present at this location on those dates to take necessary precautions for their health and safety of themselves and their families. Please also be advised that G-PISD staff has been actively working to keep all areas at campuses and facilities as clean as possible, with heightened procedures in recent weeks for disinfection as a precautionary measure for all employees.
As a result of the latest information, G-PISD will close the G-P Middle School campus to all staff until further notice. No one is to enter the building for any reason until, or unless, expressly advised and approved by the Superintendent."
While there have been no confirmed positive cases in Gregory or Portland as of this writing (8:27am March 27), there are two confirmed cases of the virus in San Patricio County.

Kleberg County to announce stay-at-home orders
To combat the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the Kingsville Police Department announced earlier today that Kleberg County will host a press conference at 11 a.m. to provide details their plan to implement a stay-at-home order for residents and businesses in the county.
At the moment there are 0 cases of the coronavirus in Kleberg County. The county has received 12 COVID-19 test results, all which are negative.
"If people will follow the rules, regulations, and guidelines set out by the CDC and the Governor's Office, the sooner we will get back to our normal lives," said Mayor Sam Fugate.
TAMU-CC employee tests positive for COVID-19, officials say person hasn't been to campus since March 12
A Texas A&M- Corpus Christi is among the 14 people to test positive for COVID-19 in Nueces County, according to an e-mail sent to university employees.
The University says the employee has not been on campus since March 12. The e-mail explains the person did have direct contact with another employee outside of work. All employees within that one department have been notified. According to the University, supervisor's from both employees' areas have been informed and will help to identify anyone else who may have come into contact with the individuals.
Dr. Kelly Miller, president and CEO of the university, stated this in the e-mail:
"Although this is not the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Nueces County, it is the first confirmed case of COVID-19 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. I understand that this announcement will cause concern, and I want to assure you that we will continue working closely with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Nueces County Health Department, continuing to follow all recommendations. Since the national COVID-19 outbreak began, all buildings and high-volume touchpoints on campus have been and will continue to be cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis. Privacy laws prevent us from releasing more specific information publicly.
As I noted in my message yesterday, any individual who is in a high-risk category should not be required to come to campus, even if their position is deemed essential. Once again, CDC recommends, and I urge you to follow these preventative measures to stop the spread of germs, including those associated with COVID-19:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick;
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth with unwashed hands;
- Avoid shaking hands;
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol;
- Do not come to work when you are sick;
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and discard used tissues, and;
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleanser.
If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms (fever, coughing, shortness of breath), please contact your medical provider. You should inform your medical provider in advance of arriving at their office so they can take the proper precautions. Faculty and staff should notify their supervisor if they test positive for COVID-19 and students should inform the University Health Center at seas@tamucc.edu, so the University can take appropriate steps to prevent the spread of illness.

14 people test positive for COVID-19 in Nueces County, one case is person-to-person transmission
The City of Corpus Christi, City-County Public Health District officials held a news conference at 3 p.m. Wednesday to provide the latest updates on COVID-19.
They shared numbers that were released Tuesday evening and promised that each day at 4:30 p.m., the public and media will be provided with numbers that will be current as of 4 p.m. that day.
As promised, updated numbers were released at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and confirmed that Nueces County now has 14 cases of COVID-19. Among them is the first person-to-person contact case in the county.
Public gatherings restricted through mid-April
City Manager Peter Zanoni also reminded the public that a City Council order limiting gatherings in Corpus Christi was extended through mid-April.
Because of that, along with Centers for Disease Control recommendations to limit gatherings to no more than 10 people, Easter weekend festivities at Labonte and West Guth parks have been cancelled this year. That includes camping and the use of barbecue sites.
Stay-At-Home order issued for Nueces County
Meanwhile, Coastal Bend leaders have been considering a possible stay-at-home order for Nueces County and touched on that subject briefly. However, as of 3 p.m. Wednesday no stay-at-home order is in place.
That changed during a news conference hosted at 4 p.m. by Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales, who officially signed a stay-at-home order for the county.

City of Robstown announces first positive case of COVID-19
The City-County Health District confirmed Wednesday afternoon the first positive case of COVID-19 in Robstown, Texas.
This patient is included in the 14 cases currently in Nueces County.
Officials said the patient is a female between 70-80 years of age. She has been hospitalized.
In a news release Wednesday afternoon, the City of Robstown said the City-County Health District "is working with health officials on contact tracing to limit further transmission."
