CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Port Aransas Police Department is investigating the death of 71-year-old Judy Mauer, whose body was found floating by Marker 19 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Port Aransas Surf Rescue team announced Wednesday that beachgoers discovered a woman's body floating in shallow water on Port Aransas Beach. Police said that witnesses saw Mauer enter the beach alone, and that she waded into the water not long before her death.
Police arrived at the scene around 1:25 p.m. and were able to pull the body from the water and secure the scene. Mauer's vehicle was later found by authorities at Marker 20.
An investigation is underway to find Mauer's cause of death. Officials confirm that no visible injuries were found on the body and believe Mauer either drowned or suffered a medical emergency while in the water.
Lieutenant Joey Rivas with Port Aransas Police confirmed to 3NEWS that the woman was identified by a medical bracelet on her body and that they will contact her family Thursday afternoon.
