CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Lake Corpus Christi hosted its 32nd Annual Kid Fish event Saturday afternoon, bringing joy to residents eager to see the beloved tradition return.
Organizers stocked the waterway with 2000 rainbow trout, which was about 200 more than last year.
The annual event is held as part of the park's mission to teach the community about outdoor fun and how to enjoy and protect our resources.
Corpus Christi State Park interpreter, Josie Gunter said she was happy to see kids reeling in the fun.
"You get to see that kid who catches that fish start screaming with joy like 'oh my gosh I caught this fish!' Or a grandparent bringing their kid out and they're hanging out at the Nueces River Basin table," said Gunter. "And they're like 'I had no idea that's how the water shed I lived in worked' and just seeing that moment of realization of awesomeness that these people are experiencing - that just makes it worth it."
