CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Area surfers and spectators hit the beach today for the Port Aransas Open.
It's a contest put on by the Texas Gulf Surfing Association.
Surfers with the organization travel up and down the coastline to compete at different spots. all to be able to enter a state championship at South Padre Island.
3News spoke with an event organizer who ranks our area near the top of his list of stops along the way.
"This venue here is one of our favorites because the city welcomes us, sponsors us to come here so we just have a great, great time," said Jeff Denicola, the North District Director of the Texas Gulf Surfing Association.
"I'm here to tell you that I started when I was 10 years old. I'm now 66, so I'm still doing it- a little bit slower, but we still love it."
The Texas Gulf Surfing Association will be catching waves a competition in Galveston next.
