Corpus Christi Public Libraries begins summer schedule Monday

They're a great place to cool off, and they have plenty of activities for people of all ages.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Public Libraries are an ideal place to cool off during this oppressive heat -- and it doesn't hurt to get lost in a good book while you're there!

Summer hours start Monday, with months-long programs for all ages, such as the Summer Reading Program for children and teens and one for adults.

It runs through July 27, and kids up to 17 can be involved.

Participants will get a booklet and checkout cards to earn stamps, tokens, and challenge prizes. After completing four or more checkout cards, participants will qualify to win a Kindle Fire.

Once they fill an entire booklet, the participants also is eligible to receive a free 3-month youth membership to the YMCA of the Coastal Bend, while supplies last.

But kids aren’t the only ones who can get in on the fun: There’s also a Summer Reading Program for adults.

It runs through August 17, and participants can sign up at any Corpus Christi Public Libraries location.

To complete the program, the person has to check out five adult or young adult books and attend an ages 18+ program at any CCPL library to receive stamps and entry into the Adventure Challenge bundle prize drawing.

There will be one drawing per location, so hitting different libraries increases your chances to win.

Finish the challenge at each library to receive a stamp and a small prize special to that location, and once the person finishes all adventure and library challenges, they can have their name entered in grand-prize drawings.

They also have activities for little ones who aren't yet ready to start reading!
