Local Native American cultures at center of Indigenous Heritage Celebration Jan. 13

The Corpus Christi Science & History Museum aims to honor local Native American groups by sharing their cultures' crafts, dances and stories with the public.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — If there's one thing the Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History (CCMSH) excels at, it's making sure that no one is forgotten – past or present.

CCMSH instructor Daron Sun Eagle joined us on Domingo Live to share with us how we can honor and learn more about our local Native American communities at their Indigenous Heritage Celebration on Jan. 13.

"There's so much Native American history and culture that a lot of people don't know about," said Sun Eagle, who is also a member of the Pawnee tribe. "This is our chance for everybody from the surrounding area to come to their local museums and immerse themselves in the rich history and culture and the beauty of Native Americans."

Along with historical presentations given by representatives of the Pawnee and Texas Lipan tribes, attendees can look forward to a variety of engaging activities such as a discovery cart full of local Native American artifacts, an "Ojo de Dios" weaving station, live performances by local Mexica danza group Kalpulli Ehekatl Papalotzin and opportunities to interact with historical characters throughout the museum.

The Indigenous Heritage Celebration will take place during the museum's normal hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a special early opening for museum members at 9 a.m. Entry to the celebration is free with the purchase of any museum ticket, which you can buy on-site or online at this link.

You can learn more about the CCMSH, the celebration and other exhibits available to the public at the museum's official website.
