Selena album 'Amor Prohibido' celebrates 30th anniversary

The 1994 album helped vault Selena into the stratosphere of Latino music acts.

SAN ANTONIO — Fans of the Queen of Tejano, Selena Quintanilla, will soon be able to celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Amor Prohibido" with a remastered version of the smash 1994 album.

The album has been newly mixed and remastered in Dolby Atmos, and will be available to stream and purchase on digital platforms on March 22.  The new versions were created to give audiences an immersive experience.

In addition to limited-edition 30th anniversary CD and cassette versions of "Amor Prohibido," fans with record players will be able to take advantage of its first-ever vinyl album release. Preorders begin March 22.

"Amor Prohibido" launched Selena's already rising star further into the stratosphere when it released on March 22, 1994. It featured the enduring hits "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" and "No Me Queda Más," and the ensuing tour elevated Selena to one of the biggest performing U.S. Latin acts at the time.

"Amor Prohibido" would go on to notch a Grammy nomination for Best Mexican-American Album, and still holds the record for most weeks (96) at the top spot of Billboard's Regional Mexican Albums chart.
