CORPUS CHRISTI, Paraguay — A local music engineer with not one but two Grammys takes the Coastal Bend back to where it all started.
Mariano Herrera just made some room in his studio for some new hardware.
Since he was a kid, music has always been part of who he was.
Herrera's dad was a musician himself.
"He showed up just like in the Selena movie, he showed up in the van with all the amps and just started a band," said Mariano Herrera, Music Engineer.
Mariano says that as a kid, he didn't understand why he was pushed so hard to get it right.
"I remember coming home from school every single day and just practice, practice. do your homework and practice. that was his thing. I didn't like it back then but now, it's paid off," said Herrera.
Dusty Oliviera, better known as 'El Dusty' has worked with Mariano for years now.
"One of the best musicians I've ever met and I said that since I've met him. I've always bragged about Mariano," said artist, El Dusty.
Mariano is Dusty's main 'go-to' guy.
"I will call him up and he would doctor it up, fix it, and then he would add to it and make it incredibly big," said El Dusty.
The music that once lived in his heart, now beats for everyone.
"Once you hear your song and you hear it on the radio, or it's nominated for a Grammy or anything, it's a satisfying feeling," added Herrera.
Even though Herrera has two Grammys under his belt, he's not done yet.
"To live off of making music, just like Freddie Martinez, Sr. He built that whole studio, that whole company from the ground up, and he's still making music," said Herrera.
