Local funeral home looks to support those coping with the loss of a loved one this holiday season

Seaside Memorial Park & Funeral Home has free counseling, and is inviting people to put a ribbon with their loved one's name on a Christmas tree to honor them.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — While the Christmas and surrounding holiday season can be a time for families to get together and celebrate, for others, coping with the loss of a loved one during this time can be difficult.

It's for those residents that Seaside Funeral Home is offering free counseling for families who are feeling less-than-jolly this month.

"We do have a grief specialist now that is willing to do grief counseling for families, and/or individuals," said Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home Managing Partner Buddy Ewing. "And we're encouraging families to contact us and allow to schedule that so that we can offer some assistance to families who are having difficulties."

The funeral home also is hosting a special Christmas tree, on which family members can place ribbons with the names of their loved ones who have died.

Sales manager Edgar Muñoz said it helps bring local families together.

"We're not only helping the families that have just recently lost their family," he said. "This could be for families that have lost somebody a year ago, 2 years ago, 3 years ago, where they're still wanting to be able to remember their loved ones. And this is a great way to be able to come into our funeral home, place their names, and their names will be on here till the beginning of the year."
