Mission 911 has existed for a little over two decades. It's been long enough that a new location is now necessary to sustain their efforts in assisting those in need.
The new location, requiring major renovations, is scheduled to be completed by September 2024. However, according to founder and CEO Tony Reyes, assistance is still required.
"Right now, we're in the permitting stage, so we're going through the journey of that. We are looking for contractors that maybe would love to donate their time or services."
As the program readies for a new space in the upcoming year, significant changes are imminent. This is particularly notable as Tony officially announced his retirement from the organization, effective Jan. 1, 2024. 3NEWS also spoke with his lifelong friend, Robert Manicias, regarding some significant qualities that will be missed.
"Most of all his presence of course, his guidance, his knowledge. Since 2000 when he founded Mission 911, you know he's been active in the community. I believe that he will continue to do that," he said.
Reyes said he is at peace that he is leaving his legacy in good hands.
"Mission 911 is very strong," he said. "It's strong in the community, I have a strong staff, I have great board members, great partnerships in the community. So, mission 911 is not going to stop. It's going to grow faster and it's going to grow bigger."
In order for the organization to continue growing bigger, they are asking the community for financial donations of any amount. They are $200,000 short and in efforts to reach that goal, TXU energy will match $25,000.
