Governor Abbott to announce plan to re-open Texas economy Friday

Abbott saying re-opening will not be something that happens all at once.

Tomorrow, Governor Greg Abbott is expected to announce his plan to re-open the Texas economy. Abbott saying it will not be something that happens all at once, but something that would happen over time, all while ensuring the containment of COVID-19.

One business owner is trying to encourage a re-opening plan here at home. Read about it here.

"The scariest thing isn't the virus. Andy Taubman, small business owner said.
"It's the not knowing when things are going to change. So what are we advocating for? A responsible re-opening of business."

It's an impassioned plea to get businesses back on-line.

Taubman has seen the effects of the stay-at-home order. He owns the Double Barr Cottages. One of two properties he has in Port Aransas. For the last three weeks, there have been no cars in the parking lot, no money coming in the front door.

"We're not suggesting they just throw open the doors to business, but now is the time to plan, lets face it, even if they open up business tomorrow it can't occur in a day, they have to have policy, workforce all of that is going to take time," Taubman said.  He says that's the key - sufficient planning that can allow a path for the reopening to occur. "What are the guidelines business can live with and still function and still respect the medical advise,"

Taubman sending this letter to local leaders, asking them to come up with a plan of action. A plan that can be done in a responsible way that does not jeopardize public health.

During an afternoon press conference, Mayor McComb says they will be looking to the guidance of the governor who is set to lay out the state's plan to reopen.

"What he says tomorrow will have great barring to find an exit strategy, the number one decision will be what is best for the safety and health of the community, but at the same time we don't want to bankrupt the community,"  McComb said. "If we can get them back to work and keep them safe at the same time, I think we can."
