United Chamber discusses 'Opening the Coastal Bend'

It was a way for everyone to share their thoughts, ideas, and information people can use before more of our economy opens up tomorrow.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce put on a conference call today called 'Opening the Coastal Bend.'

Among those in the call were State Representative Todd Hunter and the Port CEO Sean Strawbridge. It was a way for everyone to share their thoughts, ideas, and information people can use before more of our economy opens up tomorrow.

"Childcare is still open for essential employee," Hunter said. "No guidance on non essential employees."

"We're going to gather data, we're going to look at metrics, the positivity rate, the hospitalization rates, if those metrics stay within a percentage of the medical advice we are receiving if this is a good rate, then we will look at phase 2," Adriana Cruz, State of Texas Executive Dir. of Economic Development and Tourism said.

Mayor Joe McComb also spoke and said the psychological barrier may be one of the toughest things to overcome for everyone to get back out to the stores and restaurants.  He also told everyone that a number of restaurants are hesitant to open and may wait until May 18 when the state is set to allow for 50% customer seating inside dining rooms.
