CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The city budget is now ready for a council vote after several weeks of public input sessions.
City Manager Peter Zanoni said an updated change in property tax revenue estimates can mean more money in the final budget to work on residential streets.
The biggest concern for residents via the virtual public meetings is whether their residential street is on the list or in the five year plan.
"We're projecting to collect about 800,000 more in property tax than what we said in the proposed budget on July 27,” Zanoni said.
Zanoni said that the budget would increase significantly from 121.5 to 122.3 million.
“That will bring our total street budget from what was going to be 121.5 to 122.3 million which is more than a 50 percent increase from the current fiscal year," Zanoni said.
The following week, a special council meeting will be called for a final vote.
The city's fiscal year begins October 1.
