3News is learning more Thursday about what led to the arrest of a San Patricio County Commissioner earlier this week.
It was Wednesday when we reported that 57-year old Jim Price, the Precinct 4 Commissioner in San Patricio County, was arrested by Texas Rangers on charges of theft by a public servant. On Thursday, 3News obtained the arrest affidavit from the Texas Rangers.
The affidavit details a nearly two-month joint investigation between the Texas Rangers and the FBI. It alleges that Price used county money to purchase equipment for his own property including a mowing tractor. He also allegedly paid county employees with county funds to do work on his property.
According to the affidavit, an administrative assistant in Price's office kept detailed records of purchase orders and receipts. She tipped off investigators.
Price is expected to be at Friday morning's commissioners court meeting to consider approval on a fiscal year budget. If convicted of the third-degree felony, Price could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
