The Banquete Bulldogs rallied from a three-run deficit and came back to top rival Bishop 4-3 in the series opener of the 3A Region IV Final Wednesday at Cabaniss Field.
The Badgers went up 3-0 in the top of the third inning on a two-run double by Dalton Horner off of reliever Jake Mijares. The Bulldogs avoided further damage when centerfielder Joseph Gutierrez laid out for a diving grab to end the inning and rob the Badgers' Tristrian Trevino of a hit.
Banquete rallied for three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, capped off by a two-run hit by Anthony Gomez. The Bulldogs would then take the lead for good in the fourth.
The series continues Saturday at 5 p.m. at Whataburger Field with Game 2 and Game 3 to follow if necessary.
