CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — First responders are currently working to put out a large fire at the File Pro warehouse on Lipan Street.
Six workers were inside the warehouse when the fire began and were evacuated safely. The warehouse stores over 200,000 boxes of paper files and it also houses shredding operations.
Corpus Christi City Manager Peter Zanoni said firefighters tried to enter the warehouse but realized it was not safe or productive. They then decided to let the smoke leave the building before attempting to reenter.
A lack of ventilation is also causing problems for firefighters as they found out that a large door was welded shut years ago.
Zanoni said fire crews are trying to get the smoke out of the building so they can see in side and try to attack from outside with water. Sprinkler systems inside the warehouse are preventing the building from being engulfed in flames.
Corpus Christi Fire Chief Brandon Wade said that crews will be working overnight to close out the fire.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury while carrying hoses.
Crews have closed off the road going toward Lipan Street at North Port Avenue.
It is currently unknown what caused the fire.
