The Corpus Christi Independent School District is still desperately short of school bus drivers. District officials say the reason for that is the demand for drivers in the oil field.

The school district has been plagued by a driver shortage since last year and have not been able to attract enough new drivers. Outgoing Superintendent Scott Elliff said the problem has been reported at school districts across the state.

Last August, the district was in need of 42 bus drivers, and although the CCISD has hired some drivers since then, they are still in a crisis.

To apply, you do not need any experience. The district will train you and help you get a commercial driver's license. Applicants need a drivers license, a clean driving record and must undergo a criminal background check.

Bus drivers earn $11.33 an hour and are eligible for benefits from the district.

You can fill out an application at www.CCISD.us, or call 361-695-7250 for assistance.
