CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A special blessing was held at over at Catholic Charities, as the non-profit opened up its Christmas distribution line.
The program registered 2,500 families, which lined up in a drive-through outside the facility to get their Christmas gift baskets and toys.
Organizers said recipients started lining up for the distribution event as early as 7 a.m.
Bishop Michael Mulvey was on-hand during Tuesday's distribution to bless the baskets before handing them over to those in need.
"I’m very happy, I’m very happy that Catholic Charities is able to provide this,” said emergency aid director Anita Rivera. “The only reason we’re able to provide this is due to our donors. Our sponsors. Our staff that go way out of their way including our volunteers."
The baskets were filled with the necessary food items to create a traditional Christmas dinner.
Drive-thru distribution for families who registered will continue Wednesday in alphabetical order, with Thursday set aside for walk-ups.
