CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Nueces County Coastal Parks and the city of Corpus Christi are working together to construct a new community facility at the Briscoe King Pavilion that will include several modern features.

Nueces County Coastal Parks Director Scott Cross said the 4,920 sq. ft. building will accommodate 300 people and have features the current facility doesn't have.

"The new facility will have a small caters kitchen," he said. Ït'll have a, like, reception area in there and then your assembly space, your mechanical closet and all that stuff. And it'll have a balcony."

Along with Nueces County Judge Connie Scott, Commissioner Brent Chesney helped secure funding for the project, which will cost an estimated $5.9 million.

"We got the first round of funding for $4 million," Chesney said. Then what happen was basically we waited for awhile, we did some revision and the cost of construction goes up so we went back again this week and added another $2 million to the budget. So right now it's a 6 million budget."

Cross said the original pavilion will not be torn down.

"So used one of the older pods which is a non-conditioned space and we put in an office and storage in there," he said. "And then we still have the two west pods -- no the pods to the north -- that will be open for rental as well."

Cross said this facility will make a big impact in the community.

"There's a lot of opportunities here that we've never had because now we have a nice condition space that we've never had before," he said.

The county officials hope to being construction on the new facility in 2025 and have it finished in early 2026.
