CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Residents headed over to Corpus Christi’s West Side, where A&M-CC’s Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education Center combined celebrating Día de los Muertos and Halloween into one big party.
The center was lined with ofrendas and art for the kickoff fiesta, and outside, kids were able to get their trick or treat on, thanks to the Westside Business Association.
The event was designed to not only bring the community together, but to celebrate loved ones who have died.
"It's just a way to bring family together, bring the community together -- especially here in the West Side -- because a lot of our neighbors are able to walk over here and just celebrate their culture and just enjoy each other’s company," said A&M-CC’s Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education director Esmeralda Herrera-Duran.
The Garcia arts center also partnered with K Space to showcase its Día de los Muertos youth art exhibition. Art entries from 91 local students were on display in the gallery.
