CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As many of you plan for Halloween activities this weekend, some may worry about large gatherings and the dangers that can sometimes come with them. The city of Ingleside is looking to take any fear out.
Police Chief Tammy Burr, says she will do everything in her power to ensure the community’s safety at this year’s parade. About 30 floats participate every year. Because this celebration will take priority for that night, Burr says the force will keep their ‘eyes and ears to the ground’.
“We’ll be out in full force that night,” she said. Number one it is Halloween night so there’s a lot of things that come into play there. We have our sex offenders and we want to make sure they’re doing what they’re supposed to be doing. We’ll have officers at every intersection.”
City manager Brenton Lewis says thousands of people participate each year. He adds the city has taken precautionary steps to make sure everyone, especially children, will be safe at the event.
"Everybody that's pulling the float or anything else, they all have spotters in the vehicles with them,” he said. “So they can be watching the children as they're running up to grab the candy, because they're all excited about it.”
The Ingleside Police Department is asking the community: if you see something, say something. Chief Burr adds, if you see anything suspicious, her team has no problem investigating.
The parade will be Tuesday, October 31 at 6pm. It will begin at Ingleside High School and will end at N.O. Simmons Park.
