Eagle Ford Shale has the city experiencing some growing pains, and that is why a new middle school is under construction off Ennis Joslin and Holly.

3News had the chance to see how construction of the new school is going Wednesday. The walls are now up on the gym, and the support structure is going up right next to the gym and able the cafeteria.

There are about 80 workers on-site, and at times, there have been nearly 120. The work began in January, and should be finished by August of 2015.

The school is also being built with the environment in mind.

"We're pursuing LEAD certification, which results in better efficiency in our HVAC and electrical consumption," said Scott Meares, bond project manager for the Corpus Christi Independent School District. "Although our square footage is about 148,000 square feet, we'll have a more energy-efficient facility for its use and long term maintenance."

The $31 million school can handle 1,000 students and will feature a weight room, fine arts areas and plenty of science labs.

Classrooms are going to be built as part of a two-story structure on campus.
