One man dead, officer in critical condition following shooting on Burnham Drive

Police were responding to a domestic disturbance and reports of shots fired. CCPD says the wounded officer underwent surgery early Saturday morning.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A shooting on the city's southside ends with one man dead, and a police officer in critical condition.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m., CCPD responded to the Summer House Apartments at the 5400 block of Burnham Drive, off Staples St. and Holly Rd., for a report of shots fired and a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old suspect. Following a brief struggle, police say the man pulled out a gun and shot one of the officers at least once.
