Man accused of attacking Grimes County couple with machete arrested near Corpus Christi, deputies say

The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office said Elpidio Deleon Gonzalez, 45, was arrested more than 250 miles away from the scene.
A man accused of stabbing two people with a machete in Grimes County was arrested in Corpus Christi, according to the sheriff's office.

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — A man accused of stabbing two people with a machete in Grimes County was arrested near Corpus Christi, according to the sheriff's office.

Both victims were flown to Memorial Houston Hospital in Houston. One, a man, is in critical condition. We are still working to learn the condition of the second victim, a woman. Both victims had "severe lacerations" and deputies performed lifesaving measures, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office said. 

Elpidio Deleon Gonzalez, 45, was arrested more than 250 miles away from the scene, GCSO said. 

Deputies said the attack happened just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday while a couple was inside their mobile home behind a Citgo gas station off Highway 30 in Shiro, which is about 30 minutes outside of College Station.

Investigators said Gonzalez, who is the ex-boyfriend of the female victim, broke into the couple’s mobile home and attacked them with a machete.

Deputies said Gonzalez fled the scene but was caught five hours later in Bayside, north of Corpus Christi with help from The Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Division, Refugio County Sheriff’s Office and Refugio Police Department.

Gonzalez faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
