CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As temperatures rise in the Coastal Bend, more children and families are expected to head to the pool or beach. Del Mar College wants to make sure everyone has a good time by preventing childhood drownings.
Instructors said accidental drownings are one of the leading causes of death in children. That's why they're offering aquatics classes for children, regardless of their swimming experience.
Youth Aquatics Program Director Kristy Urbick said they will teach beginners what to do if they were to fall into a body of water and basic strokes.
"Try to provide that for the community and give them a way- I know we have the ocean here and you have different things so we want the children to understand how to swim and be safe around water," Urbick said.
Classes are offered in the evening at Del Mar's East Campus. There are several requirements for children in this program. To learn more visit their website.
