CCISD, Flour Bluff ISD and Rockport-Fulton ISD announced graduation plans for their 2020 seniors

How local school districts are adapting to the Governor's guidelines for 2020 graduations.

CCISD seniors, who are anxious to walk the stage, got an answer this morning as the district announced graduation ceremonies will begin in June.

We're sure a lot of seniors are breathing a sigh of relief, and although we are still waiting to hear back about other districts' plans for 2020 graduations, here are the ones we know about so far.

CCISD

Jennifer Gibson is a senior at Branch Academy. She just found out she will be graduating this June.

"It was a bit overwhelming because I was expecting it in July, but June, it's not the ideal graduation, but it's what's being done," Gibson said.

She and thousands of other CCISD seniors were supposed to be walking the stage this weekend, but the pandemic forced school districts to postpone ceremonies until the summer.

Following Texas Governor Greg Abbott's guidelines on hosting graduation ceremonies outdoors with social distancing, CCISD announced Friday they'll move their ceremonies from the American Bank Center to Cabaniss Field. The first graduation is set for Friday, June 5, at 6 p.m.

There won't be a rehearsal, and only a limited amount of guests are allowed inside; other family and friends can watch via live stream.

Flour Bluff

Flour Bluff High School's principal James Crenshaw took to social media Thursday via Facebook Live to announce for the first time in 45 years their ceremony will be held outdoors at Hornet Stadium.

"We're gonna have graduation on June 5, and we are going to have the maximum amount of school tradition and school pride and make your graduation as awesome as we can in this environment," Crenshaw said.

Two guests are allowed per senior, but they'll also be live streaming the ceremony.

Rockport-Fulton

In Rockport-Fulton, seniors will be walking the stage at Pirate Stadium on Thursday, May 21. The school will be limiting guests to three per senior, and district nurses will be screening people as they go into the stadium. The ceremony will also be available via live stream.

Other school districts are still finalizing their graduations plans. When they make those announcements, we will have that information as well as the safety guidelines for each.
