The search continues Sunday evening for a San Antonio man who went missing in the water off of Port Aransas yesterday afternoon. His family tells 3 News 21 year old Patrick Clark was swept out by the strong current.
His family continues to wait for word as the US Coast Guard searches the water by air and by sea.
Our Heather Gustafson reports on how the family has stuck together through this difficult time and why they won't leave until he is found. "I heard my sister crying saying get here, y'all need to get here."
Just before 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, 21 year old Patrick Clark was swept away by the waves near Horace Caldwell Pier in Port Aransas. His Family says he was about 50 yards from shore when he disappeared.
Damian Gomez who was swimming nearby, tried to help rescue Clark.
"I swam toward him trying to help and when I got to him, I tried picking him up, but he was too heavy for me."
The current was too strong.
Clark's family is now pulling together though this nightmare ordeal.
Peggy Clark, Patrick's Aunt said, "when we need one another. We're strong like that."
Peggy drove through the night to be with her family.
She said, "I had a feeling that I didn't want to come here and once I got here, it was just everybody was just standing around crying."
Patrick was on vacation, visiting from San Antonio.
According to family members, he didn't normally go swimming, but decided to join his younger brother and girlfriend in the water.
The family was seen linking hands and walking out into the water in search.
They say they won't leave, won't stop looking, until Patrick is found.
"we need to know we need some closure."
