CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — An inclusive swing was installed at Memorial Park in Rockport for children with varying abilities
The special swing makes it possible for kids with disabilities to enjoy the park along with able-bodied friends. The swing has its own special features like a safety harness, which provides an extra element of protection for the child.
Rick Martinez, director of Rockport's Park Department, gave 3News a demonstration on how the $1,200 seat works.
"Set a child or a young adult in this seat. Then bring this back down in front of them and just reattach it. They've got several places they can hold onto. And it works like any other swing," parks director Rick Martinez said.
According to Martinez, he hopes through future grants to add more inclusive swings and even a wheelchair swing to Memorial Park or other locations.
