State Bar of Texas conducts hearing into grievances filed against attorney, who had no license

The allegations against the Dripping Springs lawyer also involve former employee Nichole Humes, who is charged with falsely holding herself as an attorney.

AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: The related video is from our KVUE Defenders report in September.

On Tuesday, the State Bar of Texas held an investigatory hearing for a Dripping Springs attorney accused of employing an unlicensed lawyer.

The five-member panel started listening to the four grievances filed against Dorothy Lawrence just before 3 p.m., according to a source familiar with the hearing.

Lawrence is the owner of the Dorothy Butler Law Firm in Dripping Springs and hired Nichole Humes.

The KVUE Defenders looked into some of the allegations in September after hearing from former clients. The grievances against Lawrence involve Humes, who was charged with falsely holding herself as a lawyer in July.
