Lace up your skates for 'Holiday on the Bay'

Attendees can pick up their free skating tickets at 2 p.m. Sunday at the American Bank Center.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The city's Parks and Recreation Department and the American Bank Center want everyone to enjoy all Holiday on the Bay has to offer. This year's activities include ice skating, face painting, arts & crafts, games and food trucks. One of the most sought out activity especially for us in South Texas is ice skating!

Robert Dodd is the Parks and Recreation Director, for the City of Corpus Christi. He said admission is free for everyone.

"Great time, like I said I was out there last year," he said. "It was huge crowds and people just enjoying their time with their family and getting on skates for the first time. I didn't make it out there on the skates, I was a little scared. But there were some kids out there that were enjoying their time."

You can begin picking up skating tickets beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday at the American Bank Center box office. While the tickets do not cost anything, you do need a ticket to skate. Skates will be provided and designated seating in the arena will be available for spectators. The event will take place from 4 - 10 p.m.

Free face painting will be available from 4 - 6 p.m. Painting will still be available after 6pm for a small fee. Free public parking will be available at Heritage Park and the American Bank Center's Lots 4, 5 & 10.

Although this is a family-friendly event, safety remains a top priority. Dodd said there will be one policy that will be enforced, the American Bank Center's clear bag policy.

"The only policy at American Bank Center is that they do have a clear bag policy, so if you're going to go in with your child or if you're going to skate with your child you have to have a clear bag policy. Other than that, it's just a good time."
