Corpus Christi (KIII News) — Representatives from other states and medical professionals gathered Wednesday in Corpus Christi for the 35th annual Adult Protective Services conference.
Majority of the attendees were APS employees who are involved with the elderly.
The conference goes until Friday and provides opportunities for the APS employees to learn and train.
"We absolutely want to empower first of all our staff but also the public to be aware of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of the elderly and of persons with disabilities. We conduct in excess of 80,000 investigations a year in the state of Texas," associate commissioner Kez Wold said.
APS provides support to the elderly and people with disabilities and tries to fix the issues they find.
Over 60 courses are offered to conference attendees such as collaborating with law enforcement and how to provide services to a reluctant client.
