CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — UPDATE: The Corpus Christi Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority announced in a Facebook post Monday morning that the 38th Annual MLK Commemorative March is canceled due to widespread icy roads and freezing weather. Their Racial Justice Forum at the YWCA is also canceled.
City council announced Tuesday that the 38th annual MLK Commemorative March will take place at noon Monday, on what would have been Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 95th birthday.
The Corpus Christi alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority has long been committed to hosting the event "rain or shine"...but what about freeze?
This year, marchers will face very low temperatures as Artic air makes its way in.
Chapter president Nikela Pradier has her fingers crossed, along with many others planning to attend, that the weather will allow it. She said it could come down to a game-time decision.
"Everyone's safety is of the utmost importance to us, so obviously if we have hazards that are weather related that would prevent people from safely getting from the courthouse to the end destination to Mount Zion Baptist Church then we certainly would evaluate that," Pradier said.
She stressed for those planning to attend to listen to the experts about preparation and to look out for your health and safety first.
Organizers will be monitoring closely.
