A woman who died in crash outside Aransas Pass on Tuesday identified

The 24-year-old woman's car hit a Ford SUV coming the opposite direction. The occupants of that vehicle -- a woman and 3 children -- are expected to recover.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A woman is dead after her car went airborne and crashed into a Ford SUV outside of Aransas Pass.

The accident happened at about 2:49 p.m. Tuesday as 24-year-old Aransas Pass resident Destiny Leiba was traveling southbound on the flyover, leaving Aransas Pass and trying to get onto State Hwy. 35, said Texas Department of Public Safety Public Information Sgt. Harold “Rob” Mallory.

Mallory said Leiba was traveling at a high rate of speed in a 2017 Chevrolet Spark when she left the roadway. She managed to pull her car back onto the highway but ended up in the median between the southbound and northbound lanes.

Mallory said driving into the median sent her airborne and into the northbound lane, where she hit the Ford, and her vehicle rolled off the road.

Rockport resident Amanda Hynes was driving the Ford and was taken to a local hospital with her three children, who are all under 5 years old -- who also were in the vehicle.

Mallory said Wednesday the family had minor injuries.
