AEP sends 4,500 resources to South Texas

In preparation for Beryl's landfall, AEP has sent 4,500 resources to South Texas to help with power outages.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — More than 4,500 resources with American Electric Power are on their way to Texas to help as extensive power outages are expected for the neighboring cities and counties up the coast from us.

Crews from as far as AEP Ohio have been activated to provide trucks and more than 120 line workers to support the South Texas region that falls into Beryl's path.

By Sunday, approximately 2,700 AEP Texas and contract personnel were checked in at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds located in Robstown, which AEP Texas is using as a receiving center for individuals involved in the Tropical Storm Beryl response efforts.

AEP Texas urges customers in the storm’s path to follow these safety guidelines as the storm makes landfall:

  • All downed power lines should be considered energized and dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with the line, such as trees, fences, or puddles of water. Keep children and pets inside during and after the storm. Stay at least ten feet away from any downed power line.
  • If you plan to use a portable generator, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Customers on life support systems or other medical equipment that rely on electricity should have a solid backup plan for areas where prolonged outages may occur.
