CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Fourth-graders across the county gathered at the San Patricio Fairgrounds to learn all about the agriculture industry at an event called Ag in the Classroom.
They learned about all the different ways agriculture shapes and impacts our everyday lives, from the cotton in their sheets, to the breakfast on their table, to even the leather in their shoes.
"It's just so important to teach these kids at a young age how important agriculture is to their lives, to the economy, to the state of Texas and to the country,” said Ag in the Classroom Chairman Jason Nedbalek. “We feed and clothe the world, and it's important for them to learn where that comes from."
Ag in the Classroom got its start in the late 1980's as a field trip to a cotton gin -- with only one school district involved.
This year, 1,200 students are taking part, and they come from all across the county.
