Alice ISD considering elementary school closure

School officials released a statement this week saying a steady decline in enrollment is to blame.

Out of the Alice Independent School District, Mary R. Garcia Elementary School could soon be closing its doors.

School officials released a statement this week saying a steady decline in enrollment is to blame. Currently, the school has only 177 students enrolled for the 2017- 2018 school year and of those students, administrators say only 122 actually live in the correct zoning area.

The assistant superintendent says there are plans to start sending students to their zoned campuses by this fall. There will be a meeting for all parents and community members to discuss the possible change next Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m. at the schools cafeteria.
