CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — When it comes to brush pickup, the city said it won't be able to get to 'area four' before the storm.
It was originally set to be picked up starting Monday, the day we could be impacted by Hurricane Beryl.
The concern is the brush already set out could become obstacles for drainage or even flying debris dependent on the strength of the storm.
3NEWS drove through the area and found piles of brush already placed by the curb in neighborhoods right off Everhart Road.
Per the schedule, residents were allowed to set out brush only from July 3 to July 7.
"They should probably pick it up like right now? I have a whole pile in my back yard I should probably put out," said concerned resident Javi Mccaskill.
City officials say you want to hold off putting it out.
City Manager Peter Zanoni told 3NEWS, crews won't be able to speed up the pickup schedule for 'area four'.
The reason? Crews have been called in to get operations prepared for city wide cleanup that might be necessary following the storm.
"We will not get to that ahead of time, today and tomorrow, in fact crews are getting ready for the hurricane making sure our resources are safe," said Zanoni. "We will have to mobilize trucks and equipment outside of the field, put them in secure areas, areas that are not flood prone, may be moving some of our vehicles to higher ground in Calallen. That does take time, the public works for example, estimating it will take two days just to get our own selves ready to be able to respond."
Outside Hubert Rodriguez's home is a big pile of brush.
At 83, this isn't his first rodeo.
"The storm is going to pick it up for you and it's going to clean out everything the whole," said Rodriguez.
He knows anything left outside can become flying debris.
"My son had a trampoline years back, and the storm hit, it wound up on top of that house," he said.
While Rodriguez was hoping his brush would get picked up early, "I surely hope they would come today or early in the morning before this storm hits. If it doesn't, we've gone through it before."
Zanoni also encourages residents, if there is something you want to get out of your yards, drop off brush at the the J.C. Elliott collection center, which has extended hours Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm.
