Alternative water sources could help alleviate drought conditions, City officials say

City officials are trying to move forward with a lot of plans including a desal plant in order to tap into water sources right here at home.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi City Council got an update on some alternative water sources to help alleviate some of our drought issues, which includes desalination.

Council members received a report from Mike Murphy, who is the City's Water Chief Financial Officer. He said there are a lot of things in progress right now.

City officials are trying to move forward with a lot of plans including a desal plant in order to tap into water sources right here at home, instead of relying on what we have now.

"Right now we just got word from TCEQ that commissioner's may put the intake permits for inner harbor on their agenda for September 22. So we hope that will play out, but we got that information just this last week," Murphy said.

Again, all of these plans are still in progress.
