CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Fans of all things anime gathered at the American Bank Center to celebrate the artform with other fans at Anime Corpus Christi.
The event something High Tide Events co-owner John Garcia said was long overdue in our city.
"There's really nothing like it in Corpus Christi, so the playing field was kind of wide open for us whenever we were kind of conglomerating together to figure out what the city was missing," Garcia said.
He said that people venture from all over the US to relish in the event.
"We literally have people that will drive from Arizona, California, New York, Florida to be here," Garcia said. "Just to be here, right now, set up on time on Friday, ready to go!"
And special guests? Some come all the way from country!
"We fly in people from Mexico and Canada and all over the country just to be here to sign autographs," he said.
It's that kind of dedication that brought back Corpus Christi native Nicalor Chanley, who now lives in San Antonio.
"Really nice conventions down here, this is where I started," Chanley said. "This particular area right here, the American Bank Center."
The convention pro said that this event gives him a sense of comfort unlike any other.
"It feels like home," Chanley said. "Most of the people who work here, I know. I said hi to the owner. Everyone has great costumes here."
