Annual 'Feast of Sharing' feeds over 6,000 people

The Feast of Sharing has been a holiday tradition in Corpus Christi for the past 30 years and Saturday was another success!

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) — It's been a tradition for three decades, H-E-B's annual 'Feast of Sharing' has brought together thousands of people together during the holiday season.

The 'Feast of Sharing' started in Laredo and Corpus Christi as a way for the community to celebrate Christmas a little early, with warm meals and holiday festivities.

On Saturday afternoon, thousands of Coastal Bend residents showed up to the American Bank Center for a hot meal including the famous ham. Volunteers spend the Friday before the event slicing up hundreds of hams.

The event is made possible by H-E-B and their dedicated volunteers; they set-up, cook and clean up.

Over the years, the event has grown to different places throughout Texas.

"We have now broadened the dinners to 26 in the state Texas and 30 total between Texas and Mexico," said Regina Garcia with H-E-B's Public Affairs.

There was also free flu shots at the feast and the option to donate blood. Volunteers also drove around town to serve meals to those who are homebound.

All of the leftover food was donated to Metro Ministries.
