April 16 could become 'Selena Quintanilla-Pérez Day' in Texas

If the bill passes, it would make Selena's birthday an official state holiday and take effect Sept. 1, 2019.

AUSTIN, Texas — A new bill is making its way through the Texas legislature that would be another honor for late Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla-Pérez.

House Bill 2492 would designate April 16 as "Selena Quintanilla-Pérez Day."

If the bill passes, it would make Selena's birthday an official state holiday and take effect Sept. 1, 2019.

Currently, the bill is making its way through the committee.
