Aransas County Sheriff's Office using loaner vehicles

The Aransas County Sheriff's Office clarified on social media Friday that an unmarked unit drawing concern from residents is a loaner vehicle.

It turns out, they have been having to use multiple loaner vehicles since Hurricane Harvey destroyed most of their fleet -- 18 of their units totaled, in fact. So for that past six months, they have had to use 11 loaner vehicles.

Five of the loaner vehicles came to Aransas County from Victoria. Six others came from a drug task force out of Houston called the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area.

"Some of the vehicles loaned to us do not have Texas registration," Sheriff Bill Mills said. "The are police units though. Fully lit, registered to organizations."

Mills said another factor causing a delay in getting current vehicles repaired is clarifying insurance standings and if FEMA is going to assist or not.
