CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Aransas Pass Fire Department will soon see a major upgrade. The department has been approved to receive a brand new $1 million ladder truck -- a first for the city.
"Because of the rust on top of the truck, it will allow rain into the cab," Aransas Pass Fire Chief Nathan Kelley said.
He was referring to just one of many costly issues that have been plaguing the fire department when it comes to their current Engine #2.
Kelley said the new truck will alleviate many of those issues. The City was able to purchase the new truck through tax funds at a cost of over $1 million, and it's not any fire truck -- it's their first state-of-the-art ladder truck.
The new truck will be custom built and the department will be able to be a part of that design process.
It's also a big deal because the truck, which will reach 100 feet into the air, will allow the City to entice builders to come to Aransas Pass.
It will take a little over a year to build the new truck.
