Aransas Pass officer fired for improper relationship with student

The Aransas Pass Police Department announced Thursday that one of their school resource officers was fired after having an improper relationship with an adult student.

The Aransas Pass Police Department announced Thursday that one of their school resource officers was fired after having an improper relationship with an adult student.

According to Aransas Pass Police Chief Eric Blanchard, it was Monday when officials from the Aransas Pass Independent School District shared their concerns about an improper relationship between the adult student and School Resource Officer Robert Brake. Blanchard said the school provided supporting evidence and asked that a new officer be assigned to the district.

After an internal investigation, APPD were able to substantiate the improper relationship and that, though no crime was committed, Brake violated both the Department's ethical and conduct standards. As a result, his employment with the APPD was terminated.

In a statement released Thursday, Blanchard said: "I apologize to our community and those who regularly depend on us to serve them with honor, commitment, wisdom, compassion, and last but not least integrity. My administration will continue to work diligently towards sustaining the public trust bestowed upon us and acting in such a way to prevent a reoccurrence of this type of behavior."
