Army-Navy football game leaves new flag flying over Lady Lex for 24 hours

Both teams said that, despite the long-lasting rivalry, it was all about the camaraderie and commemorating their joint-force.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It's a rivalry that goes back hundreds of years- the U.S. Navy versus the U.S. Army.

The two forces face off every year on the grid iron in the Navy-Army football game.

And this year, the Army took home the win.

The U.S.S Lexington flew under a new flag for one day following that loss.

The U.S. Army flag soared high over our very own Lady Lex.

It's all in good-natured fun between the folks at the Lexington and the Corpus Christi Army Depot.

"I won't' lie, I'm pretty proud right now. its uh, it's a great thing to have," said Col. Kyle Hogan with the CC Army Depot. "It's a Gentlemen's Bet. it's all in good fun and we know at the end of the day, we're a joint force, we fight together, and we win together."

Steve Banta, executive director with the U.S.S Lexington said that it was difficult to watch the Navy flag be temporarily removed, he was still proud to see the camaraderie.

"This time, Navy didn't come out of top. It hurts a little bit to see the Army flag flying over the Navy ship. But you know what, it's all about the camaraderie, and cooperation and part of this committee that supports us and we're pretty proud about that."

We're told "that" flag was only up for 24 hours.

The rightful Navy flag will go back in its place.

All in good fun.

The Army defeated the Navy 17 to 11.
