Ash Wednesday underway for First United Methodist Church

Ministry leaders spent the morning administering ashes and praying with visitors ahead of a full day of activities celebrating the Lenten season.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The First United Methodist Church is gearing up for the Lenten season with a slate of events aimed at helping worshipers grow closer to the community and their faith this Ash Wednesday. Church leaders began their morning by administering ashes, saying prayers with churchgoers and discussing the meaning of Lent.

"It's that time of preparation, repentance, and entering into that season of getting closer to God, journeying closer with God," said Director of Children and Family Ministries Cheri Heldstab. "And getting to share God's love through prayer and fasting and the ways that we just want to fast and feast and share God's love with others."

The church will be hosting more events to celebrate throughout the day.

  • There will be a noon worship service at the chapel off of Water Street

  • Ashes and Prayers at the Grow Local Farmer's Market at the Art Center from 5-8:00 p.m.

  • A pancake supper at the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 p.m.

  • Worship Service in the Sanctuary at 6:45 p.m.
