CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Barry Manilow stopped by the American Bank Center as part of his farewell tour and made his last Corpus Christi concert even more memorable by making a difference for local music students!
During his epic performance Tuesday night, Manilow awarded the Veterans Memorial band director -- Shawn Athey, $10,000 for his outstanding work helping students learn and love music!
"He said, 'The best part about being a music teacher is creating those magical moments with students everyday,'" Manilow read Athey's response to the Corpus Christi crowd.
It's all part of The Manilow Music Project that helps music programs all over the country get quality instruments, so students can discover the joy of music like the legend himself.
Winning the Manilow Teacher Award gets you a $5,000 a cash prize and the other $5,000 is 'Manilow Bucks credit' that can be used to purchase instruments for their classroom.
