Beeville high-school students wear pink in memory of 9-month-old baby girl who died in hot-car death

'The decision to wear pink was a heartfelt act of love initiated by a parent in our community,' said superintendent Travis Fanning in a statement to 3NEWS.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As the community continues to mourn the tragic loss of a 9-month-old baby girl killed in a hot-car death in Beeville, students and staff at Beeville’s A.C. Jones High School wore pink in her memory.

The sea of pink at A.C. Jones High School on Thursday was organized to help their classmate, whose baby sister died in the city's hot-car death.

The original idea on Facebook on Wednesday quickly got more than 200 shares, with the school's full volleyball team wearing pink Thursday.

The students said it was their way of letting their fellow Trojan and their family that they have support during this difficult time.

"Almost everybody is wearing pink,” said student Mia Lopez. “I think it's just very supportive, and I think it's very sweet for everyone to show they care."

Beeville ISD superintendent Travis Fanning said he’s touched by parents and students’ caring gesture.

"The decision to wear pink was a heartfelt act of love initiated by a parent in our community,” he said in a statement to 3NEWS. “The district fully embraced this meaningful gesture as a way to show support for our student and their family. Our thoughts and best wishes are with the entire family during this difficult time."

A GoFundMe has been set up on behalf of the family. If you would like to make a donation you can do so at this link.
