Beeville Police Department K-9 unit put to sleep after leukemia diagnosis

Charlie served the residents of Beeville and surrounding areas with pride and always was happy to work.

BEEVILLE, Texas — The Beeville Police Department said goodbye to one of their K-9 officers Wednesday. K-9 Charlie was diagnosed with leukemia on Monday and lost a tremendous amount of weight, mobility, and strength and had to be put to sleep.

According to police, Charlie served the residents of Beeville and surrounding areas with pride and always was happy to work. Officers believe Charlie's proudest accomplishment was putting smiles on the faces of numerous kids at the many programs and demonstrations he performed at for the citizens of Beeville.

Police said Charlie never turned down a good petting from anyone.

On Wednesday, Charlie was escorted from the Beeville Police Department to the Beeville Veterinary Hospital an took his final walk in front of his friends and coworkers.
